Chunnenuggee Fair

April 25, 2009

On April 25, 2009, the Bullock County Historic Society hosts the Annual Chunnenuggee Fair in beautiful downtown Union Springs. The fair includes continuous musical entertainment in front of the historic Second Empire-style Bullock County Courthouse.

The Chunnenuggee Fair is a modern continuation of the pre-Civil War festival that was originally hosted by the oldest horticultural society in the United States, the Chunnenuggee Garden Club.

The 19th Century Fair boasted a large exhibit of horticultural advancements of the time and the best cakes in the community. The modern fair tries to emulate the old by including a cake sale with cakes made by bakers of local renown, and sales and raffles of plants from the surrounding plant producers.

Planning is in full swing with the members of the Chunnenuggee Fair Committee working hard to improve the Fair. If you would like to help the committee, or have any ideas that would make the next fair the best yet, contact Elizabeth Smithart at (334) 738-8683 or esmithart@yahoo.com.
